Sometimes people just throw crap at the wall to see what sticks I guess. I was just reviewing my invoice history at GoDaddy and they had hand-reg orders from 2002 when I first got an account there. Some of it was pretty damn funny. But some were good, some I still have, and one sold for $50K USD a decade later, so it more than covered for a lot of crap that didn't stick! But seeing a hypenated .biz in there did give me a good chuckle.
 
My Fool's Gold Picks of the Week
Domains that are usually okay in terms of quality, but will sell for more than they should.

LLL: IIO.ca

Single-words: Interval.ca
 
I must say, that once you get past the mass of LLLs and a few of the "starts with I" words, there's much meat on the TBR bone this week.

Just finished a deep dive at lunch and my original pre-list was in the 50's and I whittled it down to 16 worthwhile domains... all of which are already bid high on the WHC page. :cry:
 
well, orders are in, let the games begin!

I'm definitely questioning some of those bidding patterns, but I am 100% fine with it. Please blow your money on the crap so you can't afford the gems.

I'm split on this. Yes, a lot of this is Restricted Domain Hype gone bad, but I also have a lot of empathy for people and I'd hate for anyone to get in over their head on some foolish "Gold Rush" TBR buys.

Eh, I really wouldn't have empathy. Everything in life is a learning experience, and that is worth its weight in gold. So if all they take away is a better idea on how to value domains, it works out the way it is supposed to.

And myid just killed it.... Not sure I've ever seen a TBR sweep like that.
 
Looks like MyID was the big winner this week, from my list at least.

And what did Danny do, take that Restricted Domain $100K+ and use it to buy 100+ new TBR links?

It was a real bloodbath, especially for everyone not named WHC.

Well we know just one domain alone netted them the equivalent of 48 new TBR threads!

Clearly, no registrar has figured it out perfectly, they're always very very close, but sometimes just being off by 0.010 seconds is all the difference between sweeping everything good and getting nothing good. There must be enough variables beyond control and predictability that there is always some degree of luck each week on the timing. And if you nail the timing, then you do really well...
