The tbr auctions on whc.ca are not extending the time after new late bids…please check it out.
Happen last week as well .it’s not adding additional time.

😫

All mine worked perfect and I had like 8-10 going on that I was bidding on. I just checked and all my wins show up as wins in the Archived Backorders section.

And I had serious problems before the fixes went in - make sure you're refreshing the screen every minute or so as a slow internet link will lose a few seconds over a period of time.

I can't remember but there was a time when I was in a similar situation and I thought I was imagining it or missed it but I could have sworn it did not extend the time.

You mean before the fixes? Yeah, WHC bidding back then was a real zoo with lots of whacky things happening. I'd be bidding and it would say "closed", then bid on another listing and nothing would happen, and the clock times would constantly be jumping all over the place. It was like a Funhouse.

But since some fixes went in recently, I have not had a single issue bidding on WHC, and today I had a full list.

I refresh the page during the auctions or the timer and bids are off.

This is the big one and without refreshing during the auction, you might have old cached data showing up over a period of time. I just refresh every minute or so.

Okay, I'm out on Stem.

How come the one word I want out of the pack is the one that goes for 2-3X the other words. And there is really no quality difference between them.

I guess the difference might be that I'm bidding on it and the top bidder will literally bid anything.

I am also out.

I know that, but why does that automatically make that NOT a 1st round pick? They screwed up the timings and went early, prior to the start of the TBR, but the penalized second attempt still hit within the 5 second limit?

I get what he's saying, that by trying to sneak in earlier than the TBR started, the registrar is penalized on that link and needs to wait another 5 seconds until the end of the first round. It's a penalty for sure, but I don't view the two attempts separately as Pick 1 and Pick 2.
(sorry, two threads going here.)

The whole TBR thing is based on "one request every five seconds" (for each thread/connection). There's nothing about penalties here. Those "threads" (connections if you prefer) that started early still have to wait 5 seconds before their next request... but since their first timestamp is ahead of the 00:00.00 mark, their second request gets to be ahead of the 00:05.00 mark.

That's the only reason you would see registrations at the 4.9 second mark... it really is the second registration request from that thread.

There might be rare cases where they might actually try for the same domain, but they will have taken feedback into consideration from the first round before deciding what domain to try to register at that 4.9 second mark.

THAT is why I would call it a second round pick. (Not only is it the second request from that thread, but it's using information from the 1st round results).

No problems on my end. But yeah, I periodically refresh my screen to make sure things are in sync.

I totally understand what's going on and it comes down to a difference in semantics.

I do not see an erroneous early shot at a TBR domain before the actual runs starts as "a pick" because no transaction happened and no domain was selected. The company who mistakenly went before the run started can't go again with that link until 5 seconds later, at which time this penalty factor won them a far worse domain. Agreed.

But I still feel that any domain caught within 0 seconds and 5 seconds remains a First Rounder, albeit with quality dropping as you get to the end.

I do get what you're saying from a "TBR link perspective" and you view each link as a pick and if that link goes early, then it's gone for that round. I look at it strictly from the "0 to 5 seconds" and "one pick per link" rules (neither of which have bene broken), and as no domain was selected, these "early birds" instead get pushed to the "back of the bus" but still within the 5 second limit for the first round.

Semantics.

sonofabitch. wife distracted me. did I get stem? or no? that's a thing I don't like at WHC, I get an "outbid" notice by email, but not a "win" notice like you get from MyID. So I was in the lead on the auction, walked away to deal with the honey-do, come back and now I have no way of telling if I won or lost. The auction just disappears. I guess I've got to wait until I see if I get an invoice or not?

Bloody...

H E DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS

I got distracted today and missed it

I might have a suggestion for @FM

An email 15 minutes before auction ends would probably have drawn me into this one.

I agree that a "Winner Winner Chicken Dinner" email from WHC (before the "Final Results" email - which can take forever if another auction drags on) would be a nice update to the system.
