Yep, but that was old. There might be others, but I stopped at NF because it was live a few months ago and nothing could beat that.

As there is currently a live term still going on at Stellar Schools, it's almost 100% a mistaken drop by someone involved with the business or program. :sneaky::censored:

Now consider all extra overhead in running the TBR systems, servers, programmers, auctions etc.; it gives a break even point of 2 or 3 multiples.

The TBR end users are a small circle of experienced dot-ca domainers. So the question is how much in total they spend on the TBR every year, then you would know how profitable it is or not.

No doubt a clear winner is CIRA. Besides that, each registrar success level is more or less correlated with the number of TBR connections they have. Individual registrars may also be profitable in any given year due to a better tuned system or pure luck but IMO not for tbr registrars as a group (even with quality lists). I think the motivation is not the profit, maybe it's the fun of play!

It's more than 100, WHC caught 89 domains in one 5 second window not too many months back. Catchdrop and myid 20+, baremetal 15+, planethoster 5, grape 3 ... Those numbers may change and and are just a guaranteed minimum. Registrars can drop connections on their registrar anniversary date, or add more during the "year". As for "profitable" ... that's the $1000 question : ) There's some profit in renewals, although most domainers seem to have their preferred registrars and thus a TBR registration is unlikely to generate the same number of renewals as a normal registration (which is why we don't discount them the same way).

But yes, the big winner in TBR is CIRA, a very high percentage (possibly more than 100% : ) of TBR registrars TBR revenue goes straight to CIRA.

Wow. Very interesting. Both Registrars and Registrants feel that it is the CIRA, the non- profit entity that is the winner in this whole deal. Fascinating.
 
Of course CIRA is the big winner. It’s not even close either. They win in everything they do and they win big. They make sure of that. Just look at the cost of registration prices. Look at the mark-up by registrars. The sad part of all of this is that these businesses are spending money on advertising and then the majority goes into the pocket of CIRA. It’s a great franchise opportunity for any who are interested. Unlike most franchises though you have to pay for all the set up yourself. Then you have to go through their testing all at your own cost. Only to make a buck or two per domain while they sit back and take the rest.

That said, quite a few of us have made money on .ca's in the aftermarket so there are other winners as well.

Mind you, our slice of the pie is quite a bit smaller but it gives us a good taste nonetheless.

Honestly, I think Stellar has a chance to sell for more than EMI, SLU and JLD combined.

I feel like bidding on it, and I'm notoriously tight with my TBR cash.

After seeing RTC go for $900 last week, I really would be surprised if it hits 5-figures.

In case you didn't look outside lately, Canada's economy is tanking, our population is exploding, and we're just a few hots meals away from 3rd-world status.

I agree, our economy is only going to get worse and auction prices are definitely softening but this is one of those once in a decade .ca drops imo. Only takes two investors with deep pockets for the price to get crazy.

The two that stood out for me were definitely Swyft.ca (Webnames ?) in 9th place and Trueway.ca (PlanetHoster) in 10th.

I had both those on my list, but these were no great shakes IMO, so I'm guessing a matching company or broker won them.

Then again, I could be totally wrong and it was RLM who bought them and he'll sell then next week for 6-figures each.
