wouldn't be a cache issue. the old orders were there. I deleted them one by one. Then later, they were back. However, I did log in from another device. I'm thinking they're storing cart contents in a cookie, and that is the problem, by switching devices, on old cookie resurrected the old orders. just my theory though. weirdly though, my new orders were there, not just the old ones, so that kinda throws a wrench in the cookie theory too.

That is the most likely answer, probably wise to stick to one device, sucks when travelling though.

I’m with Apple and switch between my phone and laptop when placing backorders and did not encounter that issue. Maybe the team from WHC can elucidate more on this.

I use apple too, but I was using firefox browser from multiple devices. This required me to log in again after switching devices.

But it looks like it's likely related to having the order/cart on multiple devices and then (obviously) only completing the order on one of the devices.

Our currently proposed fix is this:
Instead of just prompting you to remove older orders from your cart, we're planning to showing the items we'll be removing from your cart and with a single button (i.e. "continue") they will be removed and you can check out. This basically adds one click instead of needing multiple clicks to remove the old domains.

This is great - just please do it sometime before you have to enter the credit card information.

The fix at WHC for blocking the cart went live yesterday. While it's still after confirming the payment info, you should now be able to remove the invalid backorders with a single click without having to go back to the cart.

Note that I just logged into my account, and immediately saw a bunch of old orders from the last TBR run a couple weeks ago (since I missed last week). So I removed all the old orders first, then added a handful of new orders. I then proceeded to hit Submit button. That takes me to the "Configure" page. Magically, all those orders I just deleted 60 seconds before are back again! Ugh. Really? So rather than deleting all the orders again, I just continue in order to see what happens. So then it takes me to the payment page and I enter my CC code and hit submit again. A pop up comes up and says something to the effect of "oh, you have an invalid order for the domain abc.ca, proceed anyways?" and I'm thinking omg, there were like 25 invalid orders, are they seriously going to ask me about every single one? ugh! I just click to proceed anyways to see what happens and it just says "order submitted" without detailing what orders were submitted and what were ignored.

I waited for the email and it showed that the proper domains were submitted and that all the bad ones were ignored.

So while this did ultimately work, its confusing and frustrating to anyone doing it the first time because none of it is intuitive or fully explained.

This really should be checked BEFORE we get to the credit card page. In fact, invalid orders should be purged system wide, shortly after each TBR so that they're not still hanging around from the previous week. Any remaining invalid orders (possibly from typo-ing a new order) should be listed before you're asked to proceed so you know what will happen, not have to just hit submit and hope for the best and then wait for an email to see if it worked.

This definitely needs some work still. This just seems like such common sense, I can't believe programmers actually put supposed fixes in there like this and think that's good enough.

Thank you for the detailed feedback, I'll take this back and see how we can best improve this. I'm glad that it worked. It should actually have listed all of the ineligible domains, but from what I understand from what you write it just listed one of them. Is that correct, @rlm ?

It might not be easy to change the flow of the order here (with regards to checking this before the credit card payment), but I'll look at this as well.

As far as I know the cart cannot be purged system wide easily, as the cart contents are stored locally on your device.

Yes. It just listed one of them.

A cookie can be given an expiry date. And if you don't want to expire the entire cookie, the cart contents for a TBR domain could be stored with the TBR run date, thus invalidating it after TBR.
