Again, I could be wrong. I looked at some archives and the latest one from 2018 shows that they hadn't updated the website since 2011. They could have let it expire because they no longer use it.

I'd say it's being bid up by private backlink network owners. I guess we'll have to wait and see! *SCRATCH*

IF we knew it was the original owners trying to get it back, I'd agree 100%, just let them have it, don't bid. But that's a big assumption. There are quite obviously a couple domainers who go after backlink domains, so I'm sure those guys are going to be the ones fighting for it.

no clue, but it looks like baremetal gets just the odd domains here and there. Surprised they don't capture more, they've been around for a while...

I saw it at Sibername.

commercialwindows.ca for $700?
travelagent.ca in the four figures?

It might be the end of TBR for me if this continues... *STOP*

Money is flying right now….my leads year over year are up 140%. Record years are coming for domain sales.

I agree, but these prices are just not sustainable over the longer term, so if you wait it out things should settle down a bit.

Look at these 200+ TBR picks during horrid weeks - does anyone really believe more than a couple of these will sell each year? It's almost mass insanity at this point and I truly believe some newbies are "treating .CA like .COM" without realizing their local target market represents less than 1/2 of a percent (0.47%) of the .COM worldwide market.

2021 was great, but so far 2022 has been an absolute bust for me. Still lots of leads and lots of bids, but no sales and serious price resistance once you hit 4-figures.

I was talking to a friend in the gov't last week and he said that small business closures are massive right now, and far higher than anyone will admit. He was quoting stuff like 10-15K a month towards the end of last year.

Honestly for me all of my sales are minimum 5 figures so I only expect so many every year. It is very hard to tell how the year will play out based on one month. That’s why I use my leads as an indicator. The more interest the better as it will eventually lead to sales. In terms of everything going on right now with the economy it seems like there is money everywhere. Real estate is on fire in the GTA. Prices are rising all across the board. It just leads to bigger sales in the domain industry.

It all depends on what industry you’re in but I don’t see small business struggling that much. Many have adapted and a big shift has happened. I think we are pretty close to pre-pandemic employment.

Like I said, it's a lot worse than people think or the gov't is willing to admit, and you can't trust employment numbers that are continually being screwed with as to who is "actively seeking employment". I used to work in this area and it's a bit of a scam.

And some areas of Canada are much harder hit than others and living in a bigger city (especially one with a gov't job support system) it doesn't show the whole picture. That's why in the face of omicron and the other variants, it's suddenly "business as usual" and "back to normal" with everyone open, as the whole house of cards is primed to fall down.

My friend and I bought a small plot of land for fishing up near Seeley's Bay last summer. We play a game called "What business is gone now?" on our drives up. It sometimes seems like the only businesses making money in those small communities are the ones selling "Permanently Closed" signage, and the LCBO. :(

It seems all we hear about in the press is the effect of COVID on restaurants. During shutdowns, they can still do takeout and delivery at least. 100's of thousands of businesses just have to shut down with no way of earning revenue, especially in the service sector. You rarely hear about them.

I recently took up snooker again after 33 years away from the game. I was talking to the manager of the local pool hall here yesterday (actually has snooker tables) which just reopened again from COVID closure. I asked him if his landlord has been reasonable during the various COVID shutdowns and he said he was lucky that the landlord is also the owner of the space, so sort of had to be under the circumstances. Thousands of businesses didn't/don't have that luxury. Rent isn't the only burden for businesses with things like loans another big issue. Two years into this and it still isn't over...

I wasn't in the travelagent.ca bidding, but don't think the bidding was out of line. But hey, that's just me.

I was apparently second to last in bidding. Got distracted by the wife and missed getting in a bid on time and it was gone...

If there was transparency in the auctions I'd be more comfortable placing proxy bids rather than only live bids. But the well known history of abuse by domain auction companies or their employees prevents me from being comfortable from doing that.

I'm curious to see who won. I wonder if Rick accidentally let it expire and then wanted it back?

*THUMBSUP* …but I can honestly say I have put proxy bids and got very good names for much less than my proxy bid at Siber over the years.

I don't always do it, but agree that proxy bids at Siber are a good idea. It takes the "gotta beat the other guy" emotions out of the game and allows you to set a price you are willing to pay or the domain, without getting carried away. I finally did it on a domain today that was going back and forth, so decided to just set a price and check it later, taking out the emotional side of it. I did get it though :)
