Elon has cut 80% of Twitter's workforce. Almost a guarantee this domain is not being dropped on purpose... it's chaos over there, even basic things like payroll fell apart. Given the link profile of the domain, it will likely sell for a pretty penny.

Well twitter is actually a dictionary word, but pretty much only one thing comes to mind when people hear it.

I think I could have registered that domain myself back in early 2007 when I found out about the site in its early days when it was still fairly unknown, the domain was available but I didn't quite realize it was a dictionary word and had no idea how popular it would become - then it did get registered days later. I created a few usernames in March 2007 including @Toronto which I no longer have. At that time you could have created so many good usernames that over the years could be sold for thousands of $. I remember thinking of them as unique assets like domains, but didn't want to register too many because I thought it might attract attention, plus you needed a unique email address for every username, which I probably could have done with aliases, or a catchall email. So I only registered maybe 4 or 5. Probably the closest thing to a landrush related to a digital asset with worldwide appeal that I've ever been in. By the time I realized I should get more I think Twitter had taken off and the cream was gone. Ofcourse if I could go back I'd probably get a couple dozen great ones at least.

Maybe he fired the domain guy accidentally, he did say he fired 90% of the Twitter staff!
I doubt that.. if that is the case there will be more domains dropping. The admin email is domains@twitter.com, which is the same as the .COM. I am pretty sure that there would more domains with the same admin email. It may that the name is getting replaced. That would be my guess. And check the Registrar. Those guys are paid handsomely to take care of the corporate domains.

Other twitter cctld's have dropped. These multiple-national companies can make mistakes, I'm not convinced they are purposely not renewing these names. There is someone on this forum who won an ultra premium .ca on TBR a few years ago that was mistakenly dropped by Walmart. Similar to Twitter, it was a dictionary word but also a major brand. These things happen.

I get not needing "brand protection" in every obscure extension, but it's pretty silly to drop the term in a popular ccTLD for the sake of a renewal fee.

They’re sending a message to CIRA the same way CIRA likes to attack Twitter. If I was them I would drop it too ;)

Remember when Purolator.ca dropped to the TBR, and then the CIRA overstepped their mandate a bit by removing it (at the last minute) from the list and returning the domain to Purolator.

I guess it helps to be a Crown corporation and be able to make "that call".

It depends, I know this has happened to at least one .COM before, too. In that case it was a court order that "stopped the drop".

Or they are applying the same strategy as for paying rent for their offices.
Baremetal will not have to worry about it for a few months atleast now.

Twitter is gaining traction, someone wants it badly, to bid more than my 7k

There are 3 active bidders on it, myself included.
