Got here at midnight, our plane lost an engine and we had to turn back half way.
Lots of passengers crying and holding hands.
Scary as crap but we made it back then left again 6 hours later.
We even made the news, will try to dig it up.

Yikes. Well, that's exactly why they require 2 engines. Redundant systems and structural load paths all through-out. I'm sure it would have rattled most people though. I'm a bit shocked (and happy for you) that they were able to get you back on a new flight the same day. Hopefully the rest of vacation goes smoothly!

We had to strap in, put our tables up, nobody could leave the chairs for almost an hour as we limped back. One passenger had a picture of a stewardess crying and even they were sitting strapped in so this was not as routine as they made it out to be in the article.
Tons of emergency vehicles when we got back and then nobody was allowed to deboard, we heard them working on the engine while spraying it down with foam and it seemed forever before we were allowed off. They were very concerned about fire and I swear I smelled fuel so I know they jettisoned fuel before landing.
Would hate to live by an airport for that reason.
