WHC didn't come through. They're getting hammered with SEO/Traffic domain preorders lately, so that was probably the reason.

And I thought it might have gone higher than $143, but I didn't check before it closed.

Decent day, got some stuff for my local business and got a 3 letter domain that does not sound too bad. How would you guys value 3 letter .ca's?

That's the problem, there are a lot of deep-pocketed whales who will literally drag other bidders up the tree as a form of punishment.

In any auction, I always formulate a maximum price for each domain and don't go above it. That way whatever I do win comes at a price I can reasonably justify as an investment. Plus, there are always more domains coming down the pike next week, so FOMO should never be part of the equation.

Oh well it’s a free market. We do what we can. I know I overpaid but it’s not the worse decision I made about domains in the past 10 years ….

It's actually kinda true, I know I have been bid up by other bidders when they figure out its me. They drive up the price on purpose hoping to put me out of pocket. The down side to that is I will sometimes surprise the other bidder and bow out leaving them holding the bag on an expensive acquisition.

So it plays both ways, there are the whales but there are also the hunters who hope to spear the whale and sometimes the whale just swims away.

I know this to be true because I have been contacted numerous times when I walked away and the highest bidder contacted me asking if I wanted the domain at last bid. My answer was sure... the last bid before you started bidding against me!

Same here. I set my proxy and walk away...takes the emotional aspect away.

And, with domains, you have to live by a simple rule...You win some, you lose some
