I am working on a little project for my son and he needs to charge an annual subscription fee of $24 USD to his users and we ended up using GoDaddy payment links and I can tell you compared to all the other services this was by far the easiest and most inexpensive way to set up.

GoDaddy as a payment processor? Who would have thunk it, certainly not me and to top it all of the fee was quite reasonable. From the $24 dollars he received in his account $23.35 making it exceedingly cheap to take money.

He basically has an interface, publishes a payment link, the client clicks it and pays and at the end of each BUSINESS day the funds are processed into his account. It does take a couple of days to land but the process is seamless.

It is CAD by default and you have to work with GoDaddy support to change to USD if you are based in Canada. I am currently working on a way to accept multiple currencies but the links are not available everywhere. I have not verified it yet but I think it is North America only.

Theoretically one should be able to use this for domain sales and I expect there is probably a cap near 5k or so but it would be interesting to see if this would be a substitute for the spaceship 5% payment links.

If so this would be a far more cost effective way to take payments in the sub 5k category.

but what is the risk of payment reversal??? that’s the big question.

Yeah, it's probably not as bad as paypal (which I refuse to use) but a bigger risk than some.

That said, a proper bill of sale and for smaller piddley sales this is ideal.

Mind you, useless in Canada with E-Transfer but on sales outside of Canada it could be helpful on the smaller sales with minimal risk.

UPDATE ON THIS

I ended up moving to STRIPE payments, GoDaddy was a nightmare to deal with. However the concept of what they have is excellent and it works excellent.

The payment system itself is fantastic but the implementation is poor, let me tell you why...

1. The Godaddy website, is so confusing with constant upsells and I can never find what I need, literally had to bookmark every page of importance.

2. The site just wont load on a consistent basis causing me to have to do constant page refreshes.

3. Trying to find something I viewed previously can be a challenging event.

4. Support was friendly but ended up telling me blatant lies.

5. I wanted to charge in USD and was told because my account was based in Canada I could only charge USD. Furthermore I was told someone from the US would not be able to purchase from a CAD account.. WHAT!

6. I said there has to be something wrong and the support guy said maybe I should try and make a US account and I said it won't let me and support said he would try.

7. After 4 days support said its not possible and they had deleted my account AT MY REQUEST (a blatant lie, the support guy did that on his own).

8. The thought of going through the process again was daunting but I did it only to be told at the end I could not have an account because I already had one.

9. I contacted support and no answer for a week, I was not able to get my account back.

Went to STRIPE, the system was straight forward and my new venture is taking payment in USD (it's a world wide project) and the payments are landing in my USD account as expected. Way to go stripe.!!

As a footnote: If godaddy launches, this at least North American wide, where the merchant can pick USD or CAD then it would become a viable service. When I was successful and did a mock Canadian transaction it was an incredibly smooth process. In fact setting up everything worked until support got involved. Support went to a call centre that was not godaddy and to say they were useless in addressing any concerns would be an understatement. The account deletion was their answer and then to not help me when I could not set up again was them basically washing their hands.

WOULD I USE THE GODADDY PAYMENT LINKS?

Yes for in Canada only (or the US only) I think it's an excellent service and would probably be a better fit for MapleDots (instead of my other project) for my under 5k transactions but since I cannot set up an account it makes it problematic at best. According to the Website I already have an account and cannot make another and according to support they deleted my account and I have to make another. A conundrum at best!!

jamesiles @jamesiles just so you know my experience, I gave it my best shot.
