I am still confused with Grape.. So is it only the first initial bid that a user places (during pre-TBR backordering process) that refunds you 50% if you win it at that max amount? Everything that happens in an auction is 100% payment, unless you were that original user with the initial highest bid, correct?
Any preorder on a domain won by Grape gives you a 50% discount off your original preorder bid price. So in each auction, there may be multiple participants holding a preorder discount of varying amounts.
Anything above that 50% discount, is real money and anyone taking part in an auction without a preorder on that domain is spending 100% real money.
For example, I place a $2000 preorder on Dork.ca, so that provides me with $1000 in credit if I win. I eventually win the domain at auction for $3000, so I deduct my $1000 preorder credit and pay $2000.
There is also an if/then option of a 20% discount off the total price (did it used to be 30%?), whichever is highest.
For example, let's say Dork.ca sells for much more than I anticipated and I win it at auction for $6000. Then the 20% total discount ($1200) off the total price is higher than my initial $1000 credit off the preorder price, so I deduct the $1200 and end up paying $4800.
And if you did not place a preorder at Grape on a domain you want to buy, and still decided to take part in the auction, then if you win you pay 100% of the bid price.
I hope that makes sense.
