TBR Drop - Mar 11, 2026 (30.Viewing)

Got the go-ahead form engineering: it's safe to claim now.
Correct domain won/lost emails should have also gone out.

Let me know if anything else still feels off. I'll also ask our care team to issue courtesy account credits to all of you that were impacted this run. Again, apologies for the disruption.

It's amusing that WHC has a "Care Team" while MyID has a "We Don't Care Team".

I lost power this morning... ETA for it coming back is 4pm this afternoon, but the cause is still unknown.
Oh no, that sucks. Some schools actually lost power this morning, as well. Branches are still falling and cables are still breaking.

I woke up to this in my driveway. Looks small, but I barely moved it to the side.

I still need to check if the roof is all good, been listening to things hitting it all night.

I truly appreciate you reaching out personally regarding my concerns and resolving the issue at hand. Thanks for providing the update and getting everything back to normal.

What's everyone's take on how much jazz is going to go for? Starting bid north of 5k tells me this can go a crazy distance.

It might go a lot higher, depending on how many people made a preorder at Grape. Remember, that first bid is really only $2500 (and maybe there was more than one preorder at that level) and I'd expect it to hit $5K in real money (at least) with a bid of $7500.

Remember, that first bid is really only $2500

Exactly, I would have set a REAL max bid at 15k for that domain.

If Grape sells it to someone who back ordered it at 15k they only get 7.5k and lose out on another 7.5k

I really don't understand it, it's such a bad business motto and makes absolutely no sense.

So knowing what my max Bid would have been (had I participated) it will be interesting to see what the net actually will be for Grape.

PS. I just bought another 4 letter pronounceable via the whois contact form for 5k CAD. There are great purchases to be had, you just have to find them.

I am still confused with Grape.. So is it only the first initial bid that a user places (during pre-TBR backordering process) that refunds you 50% if you win it at that max amount? Everything that happens in an auction is 100% payment, unless you were that original user with the initial highest bid, correct?

That's a great strategy, congrats on the purchase.

I know what you mean, but I think they only go to $10K max, and even then, that's a bit high. Personally, I would set the Max Preorder Bid to $5,000 as anything higher is counter-intuitive and openly promotes "gaming" the system, as we saw with NN.ca.

Any preorder on a domain won by Grape gives you a 50% discount off your original preorder bid price. So in each auction, there may be multiple participants holding a preorder discount of varying amounts.
Anything above that 50% discount, is real money and anyone taking part in an auction without a preorder on that domain is spending 100% real money.
For example, I place a $2000 preorder on Dork.ca, so that provides me with $1000 in credit if I win. I eventually win the domain at auction for $3000, so I deduct my $1000 preorder credit and pay $2000.

There is also an if/then option of a 20% discount off the total price (did it used to be 30%?), whichever is highest.
For example, let's say Dork.ca sells for much more than I anticipated and I win it at auction for $6000. Then the 20% total discount ($1200) off the total price is higher than my initial $1000 credit off the preorder price, so I deduct the $1200 and end up paying $4800.

And if you did not place a preorder at Grape on a domain you want to buy, and still decided to take part in the auction, then if you win you pay 100% of the bid price.

I hope that makes sense.

Did jazz.ca actually go for $5100 or $2550?

Who knows, as the first bidder was definitely in for $2500, so I am surprised he didn't outbid the $5100 bid. You can bet the top bidder had some kind of discount, but it's tough to guess what it was.

I am angry that I did not get cla.ca as it went with 3600$ so if I would have had a pre-order it would have been even cheaper

That's the whole point - the Grape system is designed to get you preordering all the TBR premiums each and every week.
