TBR Musings - March 10, 2021 (12.Viewing)

Would have been nice if even one of those domains were available in the 400-500 range for some of us that arent exactly rich... it really sucks when there's people that already have a huge list of really good one word domains... that have money that constantly drive up tbr prices to just " collect them all " like pokemon...

Unfortunately the reality is some of us aren't all rich, and would be happy to have even just one or two good keyword domains... Either to start a business with, or to have on hand incase that person ever does decide to start a business... Some of us haven't worked in over a year due to covid, and are on ei... my dayjob is a cook/chef and in hospitality... or use to be precovid as I live in a small city that has 50k people... So I haven't worked in a year... also this last lockdown we have been in since december 26th and now finally in the red just this week.

I have had to move back in with my parents, and made tough life decisions... it really sucks when a year ago these domains would have gone for 500-700 have now more than doubled in a tbr auction.. estibot rates cupid alone at 1.1k and it's at that now....

You don't have to be a psychic to know that there will be more drops like this list, and the list that happened a couple weeks ago with 7-12 premiums or " decent " domains on them... With covid it's sad to say but many people with good domains have died. Many good business owners have had to let domains drop along with there businesses without doing research on finding out what the value of there domain is for sale on the internet...

So I still think it's extremly stupid and selfish that rich domainers that are engineers, or doctors, online marketers that already make six figures in there day job not including what there bringing in on there online revnue are driving up prices more than they need to be when there will be other keyword domains coming...

That's my rant for the day as I would have been happy with just one of these!

I should add I've said this rant in hopes that some people that are doing this could consider for the next time there's a decent drop list for people like me that would like a decent domain from a tbr to start a business or otherwise... being a chef I wanted pastry.ca in the last one someone decided to drive it up to over 500$ I could have used that domain to sell jams, and squares to locals... but not at that price...

I know a lot of you will judge me for saying what I had said this morning but I feel like its time that david ( me ) stepped up to the bully ( goliath ) and had to have my say for the next time there's a small chance of owning something decent in a tbr that shouldn't be double of what it's worth or triple in a tbr... I'm here speaking for all the little guys that would like to have just that one domain they could be happy with and not need them all!

Whiteknight Is it really different than any auction?
The highest bidders always get the spoils so in most auctions you will see the guys with money win.

That said there are a lot of ways to get domains and I often pick up domains outside of the TBR system.

Also remember that there are usually a thousand domains to pick from and you can still pick up a good deal if you know how to anticipate a sale. Everybody is so busy bidding on the top domains that the smart investors are scooping up the bargains.

yes you do occasionally buy from us little guys which helps us out but doesnt always help out on tbrs when millionaire and six figure domainers drive up prices to compete with each other just to have to have all the good ones without leaving any for us little guys

im also tired of people talking about current retail price it wasn't this way just a year ago! occasionally yes it was some domains would go way more than they should be but you could get a decent keyword for 200-500 a year ago...

its obvious either its new domainers not knowing what there doing or big guys competing to get all the keywords when they already have a good list to begin with being selfish not to share with us small guys

i put the quote there as an example and didn't single you out or others on this board i am aware that there is always someone richer than someone else but no reason to compete to drive up prices when there will be lots of good ones dropping this year due to covid...

don't need to be a psychic to see that coming either as covid started last february in canada/usa... so it's been over a year... there are others in the canadian market that i could single out that have lots of cash like adam dicker... the owner of excellentdomains.ca i could continue... and i didnt post those names in my original post or yours!

im just tired of selfish rich domainers that already have a nice collection of good keywords not leaving any for the little guy or girl... not just me im sure there are others like me that feel the same way that are just to scared to say it publically not to ruin there name... but im at my breaking point! sometimes things need to be said without judgement!

Let me respond to you in the best way I can...

A top end Used car lot buys a $45,000 used Mercedes and sells it for $49,995.00

The little shop down the road buys a used Toyota for $12,000 and sells it at $16,995.00

There is still a good deal of money to be made selling Toyota's instead of Mercedes.

If you look at my portfolio I most often sell the Toyota's and rarely sell a Mercedes.

a good response to that as it's often the same in the domain world a car depreciates in price the minute you drive it off the lot! the only thing that usually doesn't is property or a house... assuming your lucky enough to afford either and not living with your parents...

from what i've noticed with .ca's its often the same as it's not a .com or .net... its a domain made for canadians... that said you could have a 2k domain that could be sitting in your portfolio for 4-5 years before a potential buyer even considers it! does it make sense to buy one in tbr for that price... also you would have to really up what it's worth to make any profit...

although sometimes some people get lucky.. i rarely do im 35 haven't been cooking in a year cause of covid and back home living with my parents was hoping for just one decent domain...

it wont happen this time obviously... prices are already marked... it's not to late to say something so that hopefully even just once something can be left for the small guy or girl next time..

It’s a business [notify]whiteknight[/notify]. Plus if you ask around the forum us domainers all lose money. It’s the people who are collecting CERB who are raising these prices. :)

im living at home with my parents after expenses i clear between 200-300$ depending on groceries also... i was on cerb and fyi CERB is now OVER anyone that was on cerb is on ei... so if people that are on ei/cerb are driving up those prices they would have to save for a few months to be able to drive tbr auctions to 1k assuming there living at home with there parents and owing only 400$ for rent..

those with more expenses than i and not living at home have less they clear! so it's not us but thanks for pointing it out :)

people on ei right now get around 890 for two weeks so i'd like someone to explain how it's us driving up the prices???

im already going to list a single 3 letter.net i have today... as cash is tight and debating on selling my only premium.ca that has a blog started...

those are the only two decent domains i have i dont have hundreds and dont need to compete with others to collect them all everytime theres a good tbr drop

Just a thought, but if you wanted to target locals, you could go with "city+patry.ca" or even "YourName+pastry.ca"

Single keyword domains in pastry.ca's category would be best suited for a national brand...or, as you witnessed, someone with lots of money

If you want to put your baking skills to good use, start small with an affordable domain and work your way up

not the point im trying to make with what i wrote above but thanks for the suggestions spex
