TBR Musings - March 10, 2021 (1.Viewing)

Would have been nice if even one of those domains were available in the 400-500 range for some of us that arent exactly rich... it really sucks when there's people that already have a huge list of really good one word domains... that have money that constantly drive up tbr prices to just " collect them all " like pokemon...

Unfortunately the reality is some of us aren't all rich, and would be happy to have even just one or two good keyword domains... Either to start a business with, or to have on hand incase that person ever does decide to start a business... Some of us haven't worked in over a year due to covid, and are on ei... my dayjob is a cook/chef and in hospitality... or use to be precovid as I live in a small city that has 50k people... So I haven't worked in a year... also this last lockdown we have been in since december 26th and now finally in the red just this week.

I have had to move back in with my parents, and made tough life decisions... it really sucks when a year ago these domains would have gone for 500-700 have now more than doubled in a tbr auction.. estibot rates cupid alone at 1.1k and it's at that now....

You don't have to be a psychic to know that there will be more drops like this list, and the list that happened a couple weeks ago with 7-12 premiums or " decent " domains on them... With covid it's sad to say but many people with good domains have died. Many good business owners have had to let domains drop along with there businesses without doing research on finding out what the value of there domain is for sale on the internet...

So I still think it's extremly stupid and selfish that rich domainers that are engineers, or doctors, online marketers that already make six figures in there day job not including what there bringing in on there online revnue are driving up prices more than they need to be when there will be other keyword domains coming...

That's my rant for the day as I would have been happy with just one of these!

Whitenight.....I hear ya.... I self-destructed a couple of years back.....so this industry will "wait us out" and I see some similar players that followed me.....yup and jumped at the opportunity, I don't blame them, in fact, they had the forethought and/or resources to keep the dream going.......but understand this is a tough industry,

So my suggestions is simple......forget the past....forget covid......be thankful for what you have and be selective, pick your battles, as DomainShane said "outwork the rich" and find your self a good chef brandable....and make it work

Forget those with deep pockets........find the holes that most are too lazy to look into.......you got this....~ian

That said, I do own pastry.ca

I was bidding against you...it’s a great name and you got it for a great price. I had my focus on a different domain that week which is why I bailed on it.

So many names, limited time and money Some good ones again this week.

Blame the government: they flood the system with all sorts of stimulus. All the extra money drives the prices of everything, including domains, higher.

People who hold assets see the value of their assets go up and get even wealthier. People who do not have assets see their cost of living go up and struggle even more to get by.

That being said, as a practical matter, even without a lot of money, you can make money domaining. Most of the domains I buy are in the $50 to $100 range, and I make that work.

Also, domaining is a really a long-term play - over time you will build up a portfolio, which will yield several sales per year.

Unbelievable as it may sound, I actually sold 3 .CA domains this afternoon (never happened before, will probably never happen again), so I'm definitely loaded for bear tomorrow.

Thanks, but only one was private (a small company out east) and the other 2 were through Sedo.

Well only one was eTransfer, the other two are in the black hole that is Sedo Transaction Management. But the point is the money willl be here... eventually... so I'm good to spend some of it.

The most amazing thing is that I owned one of the domains for a grand total of 6 days before selling it. Yep, bought on last week's TBR.

Amazing. Do you know if it sold to the previous owner or did you just outbound the hell out of it?

Nope, I never have any time for outbound sales and there was no business on it previously, but I think they were watching the name and hoping it would drop, then contacted me the day after the TBR through CIRA.

Nice guys with a small business in Esdiel's neck of the woods, so I didn't go all cutthroat in negotiations and gave them a pretty good deal.

They're happy, I'm happy, and so it goes.

Looking at the prices this morning, there is going to be some blood on the floor at 2PM.

This is like a perfect storm - a TBR list chock full of prime domains slamming into a gaggle of Pandemic Petes holding bags of money. Danny Hunter must be in the hospital with heart palpitations.
