Dan.com acquired by Godaddy (1.Viewing)

Having the godaddy brand beside the dan.com brand might create some extra trust and sales too. Some buyers insist on going through godaddy and since dan is now a godaddy brand they should feel comfortable doing commerce on the platform. As long as the commission structure stays in place the sale could actually benefit domainers.

I never experienced bad service at godaddy but I read about their shortcomings often enough and this is why I also support less woke companies. Competition in the market place is a necessity.

I don't know if it available to everyone but right now they are offering commission free brokerage services when one is buying.

No daddy .com is a funny phrase and was a website critical of godaddy.

OMG, Lazlo will never be heard from again when his year runs out.

Take the money and run to the sun!!

Still short sighted, if you take the 71 million and divide it by 1000 it represents 71,000 transactions at $1000 profit.

Considering sales come in all shapes and sizes the Lazlo guy would probably have made that profit and more over the next ten years and by that time the company would have sold in the billions instead of in the millions.

I like to view it as a business is worth 5x earnings. I don’t know the details but it seems cheap that Dan.com earnings is that low.

the Lazlo guy would probably have made that profit
I believe DAN.com also has investors, who may have been looking for an exit, so I'm not sure it was all his choice.

Andrew brings up DAN and asks Paul

  • 24:02 – Andrew Allemann asks: “I think we’re going to a point where Dan doesn’t exist, right?“
  • 24:21 – Paul Nicks replies: “Yeah, absolutely.“
  • 24:40 – Paul Nicks continues: “We don’t need to run two separate brands, so we are trying to get everything, all the technology and all the things that we acquired, into Afternic because that is our seller brand, that’s our investor brand. We don’t need two of them.“

Paul Nicks basically told everyone DAN is going away

Yeah, it's all over NP that Dan is on life support, and not just from Nicks' comments.

Too bad, as Dan is 10X the marketplace that Afternic is and I guarantee that with GD getting out of auction listings, they will lose a ton of customers with this move.
